Heavy Machine Crating

This is basically the same as the last crate except this is only about three foot square but weighs a whopping 800 lbs. The same precautions are taken as the machine while blocking is not a requirement at the top since it is way too heavy and the lid will be mounted close to the part and this will keep it from shaking out. Blocking is a must at the bottom because this will prevent the part from sliding around in the crate.

Tall Standing Machines Crated

Remember the "Super Duper Crate"? As I explained before we would have to do more to the machine after the crate was completed. Rust inhibitor is use on the work surfaces to protect the working areas. After this step we cover the entire machine in plastic sheathing and shrink wrap everything tightly to the machine to create a barrier to prevent seepage of moisture during the shipment. Now to keep the machine from fall-overs within the crate or the entire crate itself we cross brace the machine at the top to prevent or slow the effects of instability at the top of the machine. Here you see the sheathing and the cross bracing. Although this crate may not look like it it is actually more than six feet tall which makes tip-overs a possibility, thus making these steps very necessary. The next step will be staging since we are almost done with every piece needing to be shipped. Staging will give us insight on how we should pack or crate the remaining pieces depending on the space available.

Crane Jib

This here is the crane jib assembly after we've blocked and braced the pieces to the skid and banded at points that support the trolley track. Hopefully you can see the blocking points and the way every piece was fit into itself to save on as much space as possible. There are five pieces in all to this assembly and all five will arrive together.

Lathe Machine

This is the lathe that was put on a skid and blocked. It now goes to the next step of moisture barrier coating, desiccant packets, plastic sheathing, and shrink wrap to protect against any salt water or moisture in general that may corrode or rust metal surfaces while sealed in a shipping container bound across the ocean.

Super Duper Crates!

This is the crate that will eventually ship our heavy machine. We haven't capped the crate because we still have to block and brace the top of the machine to prevent sway or a possible fall over.

Crated Machine

Now although this machine is heavy it is not enough to keep it in place during the shipping process. The base is actually narrower than the top so that makes it more unstable at the top and increases the chances of it falling over unless the feet are mounted to the base of the crate. Note the piece of timber running through the center base of the machine and bolted to the base of the crate, This pinches the base of the machine to the base of the crate thus decreasing the chance of slippage. The top is still an issue that will be dealt with before the crate is capped. Attachments and accessories are mounted to the base to be shipped as 'one unit' to keep everything together insuring that nothing will be left out or packed in a diffrent part of the shipment.

Furniture Pack and Shipping

This wood table was packed and boxed(table top down). It was put on a pallet before shipping where it was banded down and wrapped. The standard two inches all the way around the table in the box is a must. This is a cushion between the item and the box walls that may protect the item in the event of an accidental run-in with a forklift or some other object that can tear the side of the box. Styrofoam and hex board was put in at points between the item and the box walls to slow/cushion anything that may penetrate the outer wall.

Milling Skid for China

The milling machine is now on the skid it will be shipped with. Just to insure that the machine will not move during staging, loading, and unloading we have bolted the machine to the skid. There will also be blocking and banding that will be used later in the process.

Crane Jib

Lay out for heavy-duty skid to hold this and a second level to put the trolley track (An 'I' beam with stops on both ends). This piece is a very vital piece of the final lay out that will be tested during staging, Since there is a 48-50" wide piece that you can't place a standard pallet (48"x40") next to it so the width of this may fill that area without being too tight(but we won't know that until much later on).

Not so "Heavy Machine"

Busy, busy day! Not quite a Heavy Machine, It is a piece of machinery that will require about the same attention to detail as the truly "Heavy" Machinery. This is a surface grinder that is blocked, braced, and banded and waiting for the next step which will be moisture packs, plastic sheathing, and the final dims.

Custom Engine Crates

Engines are also a specialty of ours. This V.W. engine to be shipped to the east coast will be blocked, braced and crated for maximum protection against damage. Minus engine fluids, we can pack & crate your most prized possessions, Even your 440 Magnums or 351 Clevelands.

Lathe Blocked and Braced

Lathe on it's way to being ship ready. Blocking and bracing in place to keep it seated to the pallet, preventing sliding that can damage the item or other items in the area of this pallet.

High Value in Machine Shipment

Technical parts are also a big concern during the packing process. Insuring that they will ship in a cargo container with the least amount of moisture exposure.

Machine Shipment

Along with all of the heavy machines in this shipment there is alot of supporting parts and accessories. Everything will have to be packed in smaller boxes or crates that will ship as a part of the greater machines or systems. Templates of systems will be packed as closely as possible to prevent confusion at it's final destination.
